I had the utmost pleasure of joining the Africa Centre of Excellence for Infectious Diseases of Humans and Animals [ACEIDHA], University of Zambia [UNZA] and the Association of African Universities [AAU] to participate in a workshop on “Research Leadership, Communication, Commercialisation, Partnerships and Collaborations.”

I am privileged to have been part of this workshop which took place from 10-14 September 2018 at New Fairmount Hotel, Livingstone, Zambia. I was a facilitator for the topic, “Research Commercialization Concepts and Processes – Licensing and Intellectual Property”.

The workshop was massively successful and I commend the organizers, ACEIDHA and AAU for putting this together. Again, I must confess, the workshop was essential as research leadership skills were developed and demand-driven research approaches capacities built.

Furthermore, the awareness that was created for research commercialization concepts and processes – licensing and Intellectual Property Rights was key as strategies for disseminating research findings and enhancing researchers’ online visibility was critically discussed among participants. Capacities for strategic partnerships and collaboration were developed.

Following-on this workshop, I strongly believe research progressions and practices in Africa will see a positive change with sustained sensitization.

The 5-day workshop successfully equipped researchers and academics to improve their research processes and practices.
